Neck and Spine Health
The role of load, movement variety and work setup in the neck and spine.
A physiotherapy approach based on information, assessment and movement in musculoskeletal health. Not a diagnosis or a treatment promise; a person-specific assessment process.
The two frames below show two different days of the same person. The difference is not in their body, but in the flow of their day.

A day with less movement
Long hours in the same position accumulate load at a single point and reduce the variety of movement during the day.

A day with greater movement variety
Walking, changing position and short active breaks spread the load across the day.
The images are illustrative. They are not a before–after treatment comparison. The source of a complaint can only be understood through in-person assessment.
Each area explains which factors a complaint may be related to, the assessment process, and what changes in daily life.

The role of load, movement variety and work setup in the neck and spine.

Load, sitting setup and a graded movement approach in the low back and mid-back.

Repetitive load, movement control and work setup in the shoulder girdle and arm.

Physical activity level, exercise planning and the logic of graded loading.

Movement quality, body perception and noticing load during the day.
The steps of the process are similar in every area of work; the content changes according to the person’s complaint and goals.
The history of the complaint, loading during the day, work pattern, physical-activity habits and movement quality are considered together.
Goals are defined according to what the person wants to do in daily life; the process is built on these goals.
A movement and exercise plan is formed that starts at a loading level suitable for the person and progresses gradually.
The work environment, sitting arrangement, break behaviour and movement habits during the day are reviewed.
The process is re-assessed against the defined goals and the plan is updated.
Guide content offers general information. The reason for your complaint and a plan suited to you are determined through in-person assessment.
